Itinerary:

This multiday trip has been on my radar for a few years. I explored Kokanee Glacier one summer, and did the Silverspray/Woodbury Traverse. I thought it would be interesting to traverse all three huts.

There will be a combination of hiking in/out, and scrambling/mountaineering. The traverse day will be long, and unknown. Glacier travel is a possibility based on route, but we won't know conditions until we're on site.

ITINERARY

  • Day 1 - Shuttle cars. Hike into Kokanee Glacier Cabin (hut).
  • Day 2 - Explore around Kokanee Glacier (scramble/mountaineer based on conditions/objectives)
  • Day 3 - Traverse from Kokanee Glacier to Woodbury Hut.

IMPORTANT: this is an unknown route, and may be miserable. Expect large boulder hopping, alpine/glacier travel, willow infestations, and general bushwhacking. Everyone is expected to carry gear, and to be competent with glacier travel (ropes, crevasse rescue skills, crampons, etc.). This may be a 12 plus hour day, with the possibility of spending the night out.

  • Day 4 - Traverse from Woodbury Hut to Silverspray Hut.
  • Day 5 - Hike out from Silverspray hut. Shuttle cars.

This is NOT a guided trip. All participants must be competent and prepared.

Required Items to Bring:
  • All usual hut stuff (sleeping bag, hut booties, etc.)
  • Glacier gear (crampons, mountaineering boots, ice axe, rope, crevasse rescue kit)
  • Personal gear (layers, boots, personal hygiene, etc.)
  • Food - we will do group dinners. Be prepared for breakfast, lunches and snacks

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

We will drive to Nelson/Kaslo area on July 2nd, spend the night, and shuttle cars in the morning. Participants will need a campsite for the night before, and may want to book a campsite for the day we hike out.

Notes:
  • Pre-book your campsite near Nelson or Kaslo for the night prior.
  • Also consider booking a site for the night we hike out.
  • Car Shuttle - the roads are typical BC logging. Sometimes, they are okay, sometimes they are brutal. If you have a 4x4 or All Wheel that can handle these roads, let me know how many people you can take. We will position vehicles based on size and capability.
  • Remember to bring chicken wire for your vehicle.

Payment Options:
  • Coordinator $100.00 CAD
  • Member $125.00 CAD

We need a firm commitment by March 31st as we need to balance the teams.

Cost per person is $125.00.

Invoices will be due by March 31.

DO NOT USE PAYPAL BUTTON! Invoices will be sent by Treasurer, and paid by email transfer.

Refunds ONLY if we can replace your spot with someone qualified.

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Rocky Mountain Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
