Itinerary:

This course will cover the gamut of ski leadership skills - terrain selection and management, companion rescue and rope rescue, navigation and routefinding, efficient uptracking, group management - with lots of time for leading over the 3 days. The student led ascents would potentially be Cathedral, Hector and White Pyramid.


  • Day 1
    Meet and sign waivers, the group will spend some time discussing over all objectives and past experience. Up to an hr of companion rescue review, then head out to assess local conditions, gather snowpack information and do some riding. An evening session debriefing conditions and group dynamics in preparation for following days objective and route.

    Day 2
    Aiming for a summit objective via complex terrain. Assessing a.m conditions during group meeting and onsight observations, snowpack data and changing wx observations while managing the group. An evening session debriefing conditions and group dynamics in preparation for following days objective and route.

    Day 3
    Aiming for a complex objective which may include another summit or couloir feature (s), A location along the parkway which can accommodate the groups objectives and skill level.  Assessing a.m conditions during group meeting and onsight observations, snowpack data and changing wx observations while managing the group.

    Prerequisites
    • AST 1 or higher, AST 1 must be in last 3 yrs
    • rope rescue is an asset and should be seriously considered 
    • min  15 days touring this season with intermediate to strong downhill skills
    • any other mountaineering skills are an asset

Cost $700 or $350 for trip leaders who have led 3 trips in the past 12 months. 

The cost does not include any accommodation. It is recommended to stay at the Lake Louise hostel.

An invoice will be sent to participants once the course is confirmed.




*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Rocky Mountain Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
