Itinerary:

Have you ever dreamt of climbing the high peaks in the Canadian Rockies? There are so many classic Rockies high points with a variety of routes to choose from, but the complexity may be overwhelming. The Rocky Mountain Section has planned two courses designed to take you from being a hiker and scrambler to a confident alpinist. Armed with these skills, you can explore further and higher than you may have ever imagined!

We are offering two, 3 day courses to develop your alpine climbing skills. The two courses are standalone, members can sign up for one or both.

The alpine skills development begins with this 3 day weekend at the Columbia icefields, where both snow & ice climbing and crevasse rescue skills will be taught, followed by a summit attempt of Mt Athabasca or Mt Andromeda.

The course will be taught by Mountain Guide Jeff Bullock and he will be assisted by two other guides on the third day for the summit attempt.

The skills that will be taught include:

  • Pre-trip planning, Route selection, Navigation, Leadership
  • Crevasse Rescue & Glacier travel
  • Snow & Ice
    • Anchors - V-threads, Ice screws, T-slots, Snow pickets
    • Rappelling
    • Using crampons and ice axe

The price is $988 including GST but not including food or accommodation.

There are two trip leader places available at a discounted price of $600. These two spaces are for eligible trip leaders, who have led three RMS trips in the last 12 months. Trip leaders must eligible at the time of booking to receive the discount.

Invoices will be sent by the treasurer and payment can be made by etransfer.

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Rocky Mountain Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
