Itinerary:

Bill Corbett spent a dozen-plus years struggling up all the 11,000-foot peaks in the Canadian Rockies and then writing a guide/history book about them. Wanting to spend more time in these spectacular alpine landscapes, without the toil and stress of mountaineering, he turned avidly to backpacking and discovered three things.

One, the Canadian Rockies offer arguably the finest mountain backpacking in the world. Two, backpacking loads have come way down in weight, resulting in very pleasant hiking and backcountry camping for upwards of a week. Three, the resulting guidebook of 50-plus routes, Best Backpacks in the Canadian Rockies, only took seven years.

While the Rockies boast a number of world-famous backpacks (mostly in national parks), this audio-visual presentation will focus on superb routes off the beaten path, with the bonus of backcountry camping that is often free and requires no booking. Acknowledging the alpine prowess of this Rocky Mountain Section audience, the trips described will lean to the more challenging.

Notes:

Arrive by 7 pm to purchase a beverage and/or bite of food from the Mine Shaft. The Rocky Mountain Section will provide a small selection of appetizers.

Please enter through the Mineshaft Tavern.

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Rocky Mountain Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
