Itinerary:

Mother's Day Butress is a 5.6 trad route on Cascade Mountain in Banff. There is a 40 min approach up a drainage, with some 3rd class scrambling near the base of the climb where the terrain steepens. The climb is 8 pitches of 5.5 - 5.6 trad climbing with some fixed protection and one 5.7 variation. The descent is a scramble down from the top on a trail with short sections of 3rd class terrain and one rappel/lower. The climb takes around 4-5hrs and the descent 1-2 hours. Participants must be able to 1) climb up to 5.7 outside, 2) belay a lead climber competently, 3) rappel, and 4) scramble over moderate terrain (up to 3rd class). Please send a description of your experience level and abilities, including relevant courses and climbs you have completed, particularly this season.

Required Items to Bring:

Climbing harness, helmet, 3 locking carabiners, 1 x 120 cm sling or personal anchor system, 1 short 1 m prussik, small backpack (15-25L), rock climbing shoes, appropriate clothing for the conditions and weather, sunglasses, water and food. You will be asked to carry a rope and/or some gear up to the start and down the scramble route. You must carry everything you bring as we won't return the base.

If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons.
