8:00 AM - depart from carpool parking 8:15 AM - arrive at trailhead 8:30 AM - begin our run 2:30 PM - return to trailhead (estimate)
The plan is the Allan-Collembola Traverse (as detailed below). The objective might change depending on amount of snow remaining in the north-facing scramble sections--this is meant to be a scenic ridge run, not a mountaineering objective! An alternative could be Wind Ridge or similar. Please add yourself to the waitlist and we can decide as a group!
Distance: 24km Elevation: 2100m
Pace and time: The plan is to fast-hike the uphill sections, run the flat and the non-technical downhill sections, and take our time through the scramble sections. This run should take around 4.5 to 6.5 hours, depending on the group.
Trail and route: This run begins on the Mount Allan Centennial Trail through the forest for the first 5.5 kms, then takes a side trail which soon pops up above treeline. We will spend most of our day in the alpine without access to water sources, so please pack enough water for the trip. We will head toward Mount Collembola first, which involves some class 4 scrambling with exposure to gain the summit. We'll take a short break near the summit before continuing the traverse toward Mount Allan, making a clockwise loop, then returning via the Centennial Trail back to the trailhead.
