Nostalgia kicks in as Pat Morrow leafs through a half-century’s worth of ski
adventure photos.
Pat and his wife Baiba lived, climbed, and skied in the Canmore area for many
years, and in his AV show he’ll convey how lessons learned while dealing with
the bone-chilling cold and variable snow conditions in the Rockies and BC
interior have seamlessly transferred to the greater ranges.
His stills and video clips include skiing off the top of Mount Logan, Canada’s
tallest peak; traversing Denali on skis; making the first ski descent of
Antarctic’s highest peak and a peak in the Chilean Andes the height of Mount
Robson; several trips to Russia; and quaffing the pristine powder and sake on
Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido.
And, his all time favourite expedition, with companions John Amatt, Lloyd
“Kiwi” Gallagher and Steve Bezruchka on Mt Muztagata in the Chinese Pamir in
1981, just shy of the altitude of the South Col of Mount Everest. Morrow
inadvertently cranked the world’s highest telemark turns that day! With time to
spare, Pat and Kiwi hitched a ride down valley in a Liberation Army truck to
ski exquisitely-formed 300 metre high sand dunes.
Pat’s show wraps up with a series of recent captures of both young and “old”
friends shredding peaks and powder basins within a 100 km radius of Canmore.
Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with other off-piste pilgrims to get yer
ski-on this winter!
