The Geology of the Rocky Mountains Do you ever wonder about the rocks you climb, hike and ski on? What makes steep cliffs and what is underneath the valleys? The presentation will take you through more than 500 million years of Alberta’s Earth history that culminated in forming and shaping the Rocky Mountains. We will visit well-known hiking and climbing locations in the Bow Valley where we can find evidence for this long geologic history. The presentation is followed by a Q&A period. About the Presenter Dr. Eva Enkelmann is a geology professor at the University of Calgary and researches mountain-building processes and educates the next generation of scientists. She has been studying mountain evolution in the Himalayas, Alaska, and Western Canada for more than 20 years. In her free time she enjoys climbing and hiking in the Rockies and beyond.

Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Rocky Mountain Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
