PRE-SCREENED

If we've never climbed together please email me (click my name above in the trip leaders section and that will display my email). Let me know your climbing background. Mostly I just want to confirm you are a competent top rope belayer and bonus if you are confident to help me set up top rope anchors. If you are new to ice climbing, happy to have you along, but let me know so I can provide a bit of guidance.

Required Items to Bring:

TOOLS, CRAMPONS, & CLIMBING EQUIPMENT ARE REQUIRED

Participants must have their own mountaineering boots, crampons, harness, belay device, ice tools preferably but I am willing to share, thin-gloves for gripping tools while climbing, headlamp, layers, and a helmet.

Gear Up Canmore rents mixed climbing tools and crampons: +1 (403) 678-1636

Those who have them please bring PAS, quick-draws, rope, and an anchor kit.

I only have one personal rope. Highly recommended if you want to climb that you bring a rope :)

Recommended Items to Bring:

Extra Layers, extra gloves, snacks, lunch, water, hot drink, rain jacket, hiking pole, hand/toe warmers, sunglasses, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, etc.

I will bring a Garmin Inreach, a basic first aid kit (I recommend you bring a personal blister/first aid kit).

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

From the town of Canmore, drive about 87km, W on Hwy 1 towards Lake Louise. Exit onto Hwy 93 North and continue for about 65km. Park at in the pullout on the right side. Hike  trail northeast from the parking for 30 minutes to the wall.

Parking: maps.app.goo.gl

Carpool Departure Time:   06:30 AM
Carpool Location:   Canmore
Carpool Directions:

Carpool will leave from Canmore. I will arrange carpool by end of day Feb 18.

Notes:

HAZARDS

Ice climbing is hazardous: falling rocks/ice/gear, contact with sharp/hard surfaces, slips/trips/falls, climber/belayer errors, open water, other people.

To mitigate the primary risk of icefall, belayers will be tied in at the bottom whenever possible to keep them clear from falling ice and avoid them getting pulled in case of a fall. Regardless, helmets must be worn at all times.

A NOTE ON TRIP LEADING

This is a recreational trip and all trip leaders are volunteers, not guides. Every trip member is responsible for their own personal safety and has the right and responsibility to provide input into group decisions.

I will send an email the previous evening if the event gets canceled/and or moved. The back-up plan will be communicated in case there's a need to change plans.

If you decide to cancel or have to bail for whatever reason let me know before 6:00am. That way we're not waiting for you at the parking lot. Anyone who no shows and does not unregister themselves or notify me of their change in plans by 6:00am will be marked as “no show.”

Cancellation Policy
If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Rocky Mountain Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
